HERMAN MORRIS, JR.
Founder & Principal Attorney
Herman Morris, Jr. is a Memphis-based attorney with nearly four decades of experience spanning energy, public sector, corporate, and litigation matters. Recognized twice by Woodward/White, Inc. as one of “The Best Lawyers in America” in Energy Law, he brings a rare combination of legal expertise, executive leadership, and public service.
Morris has held several high-impact leadership roles, including President and Chief Executive Officer of Memphis Light, Gas and Water, where he previously served as General Counsel. He also served as Vice President and General Counsel for Pinnacle Airlines, advising on complex corporate and regulatory matters.

Before returning to private practice, Morris led the city’s legal strategy across a broad portfolio as City Attorney for the City of Memphis. His work included overseeing litigation, advising elected officials, managing claims, drafting and negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance across city operations. He has also testified before the United States Congress on multiple occasions, advocating on behalf of national and regional utility organizations.

Beyond his legal career, Morris is a respected civic leader with a long-standing commitment to community impact. His leadership roles have included Chairman of the Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce, President of the NAACP Memphis Branch, General Campaign Chairman for the United Way of the Mid-South, Chairman of the Greater Memphis Community Foundation, and Chairman of the National Civil Rights Museum Freedom Award, among many others.

His career reflects a consistent record of leadership, trusted counsel, and meaningful contributions across both the legal profession and the Memphis community.
